LinkedIn - detailed instructions
Setting Up LinkedIn for Memorialization
- Understanding LinkedIn's Policies:
- LinkedIn does not offer a legacy contact feature.
- Family members, colleagues, or close friends can request the removal or memorialization of a deceased person’s account.
Requesting Memorialization or Account Removal on LinkedIn
- Submit an Account Closure Request:
- To request the closure or memorialization of a deceased person’s LinkedIn account, a family member, colleague, or close friend must fill out the Deceased LinkedIn Member form available on LinkedIn’s Help Center.
- Information Required:
- The form will require details such as the full name of the deceased, their LinkedIn profile URL, the requester’s relationship to the deceased, and proof of death (such as a death certificate, obituary, or news article).
- Options for Handling the Account:
- LinkedIn may either remove the account entirely or memorialize it, depending on the request and LinkedIn’s policies at the time.
Memorialized Account Features
- Visibility:
- If memorialized, the profile remains visible on LinkedIn, but it cannot be accessed, edited, or interacted with.
- Notification to Connections:
- LinkedIn does not automatically notify the deceased’s connections when an account is memorialized or removed, so the requester may want to inform relevant contacts separately.
Additional Considerations
- No Legacy Contact:
- Since LinkedIn does not offer a legacy contact, it’s important to communicate your wishes regarding your account with a trusted person.
- Privacy and Control:
- Once the account is removed or memorialized, it ensures that the deceased’s professional legacy is protected, with no further changes or access to their profile.
