An electronic will is a will that is created, signed, witnessed and stored in digital form, using a reliable system that links the testator and witnesses to the document, clearly identifies the original, and protects it from tampering.
Electronic wills are not currently legally valid in England and Wales. In May 2025 the Law Commission recommended reform that would allow them, but as of mid 2026 this has not yet become law. We will update this guidance if and when the law changes.
