My Wills

Creating a Will can feel complex and time consuming. We are here to simplify it, making it easy to create your first Will and update it whenever you need, so it keeps pace with your life and your wishes. Your Will also sits at the heart of My Legacy Plan, as the legal foundation everything else builds on.

What is a Will?

A Will is a legal document that lets you decide what happens to your property, possessions, money and other things of value after your death.

Without one, those decisions are left to the law rather than to you, and the result might not match what you would have wanted.

A valid, up-to-date Will also helps make sure your beneficiaries do not pay more UK Inheritance Tax than they need to, and spares your loved ones financial stress when managing your affairs.

Why it is important to have a Will

Think of a Will as a personal instruction manual for your loved ones, there to protect them and your legacy. Some of the main reasons to have one:

  • Deciding who inherits: your Will lets you decide who receives what. Without it, the law decides, and the outcome may not reflect your wishes.
  • Caring for children: if you have children under 18, a Will lets you name who would care for them if anything happened to you and the other parent.
  • Reducing family disputes: a clear Will helps avoid disagreements over who receives what.
  • Choosing an executor: you can appoint someone you trust to handle your affairs, paying debts, distributing assets and closing accounts. You can make their task easier by leaving clear information and instructions.
  • Supporting a cause: your Will lets you leave a gift to a charity or cause close to your heart.
  • Providing for pets: your Will can set out who will care for your pets and make sure they are looked after.
  • Peace of mind: with your Will in place, you can feel reassured that everything is arranged the way you want, and your loved ones are not left guessing.
