Do you own a property?

The following is a transcript of the voice guidance in the adeus Digital Will generator.

Before we look at your home, it's very important that you understand how you own that property. You can find this information on the property title, sometimes on the mortgage documents, or you can search the Land Registry office through their online service.

If you own a property individually, or as a Tenant in Common, you can distribute your share of the property through your Will.

If you own a property as a Joint Tenant, it will automatically pass to the other Joint Tenant(s). It should not be included in your will. It will pass to the other tenant under a legal principle known as survivorship.

For many people, any real estate property forms part of the residuary estate and is added to the value of other assets and distributed as per your wishes.
